Held on the legendary Long Beach Street Circuit in California, this race carved through the heart of downtown with palm-lined straights, tight hairpins, and roaring grandstands. Long Beach was America’s answer to Monaco — and the 1997 edition was no exception.
The ‘97 Marlboro Grand Prix of Long Beach brought high drama and close battles from lights to flag. As part of the Champ Car World Series (CART), it delivered full-throttle action across 82 laps of unforgiving street surface. Caution flags, pit strategy, and bold overtakes kept fans on edge as the race unfolded along Shoreline Drive.
Racing royalty filled the grid, including Alex Zanardi, the fiery Italian known for his signature “victory donuts,” and Gil de Ferran, whose precision driving made him a fan favourite. Other icons like Michael Andretti, Paul Tracy, and Jimmy Vasser brought world-class skill and fierce competition to the sun-soaked circuit.
